Super Size Me
Holy Cow, it's another month and half since the last post and I'm still sitting in a hospital in San Antonio. This is NOT the way that most of these transplants happen. Let me stress that! If there is anyone who somehow stumbles upon my cruddy blog while doing research on liver transplants, know that we've had several unforeseen complications. A lot of times people are out of the hospital after just a couple of weeks.
Today is 95 days since my Dad got his new liver and kidney. We had some complications right after the surgery, and then some along the way. In the last couple of weeks, we've had a couple more having nothing at all to do with the transplant. I would say things are good though, they could be a whole helluva lot worse. We're to the point now where we've hopefully got all the complications ironed out (at least 'till the next one pops up), and we're focusing on physical therapy and nutrition.
As for me, if you'll notice the title of this blog, I've really been living it up (FOOD). For most of February, March and April I did the no carb diet. I had lost about 30 pounds, hit a plateau and decided that there was enough going on in my life that I didn't need to worry about avoiding the bread that I enjoy so much. Since I haven't been home, I've been eating out, A LOT. I haven't stepped on a scale in a while, but I'd be willing to bet that I've just about put that 30 pounds back on. I guess that happens when you sit in a hospital as long as I have and eat the way I have...My one saving grace has been some friends that have me over for dinner every night. That has kept me from hitting up the dollar menu at Wendys, and the food is about 100000000 times better than Wendys. Plus you can't beat the company!
I'm not so much complaining, I just had a funny thought today as I was getting lunch. We moved to a different hospital last Friday to get some things checked out. I discovered their food court yesterday and it has like 6 different restaurant choices for a meal. I was standing in line at McDonalds today and thought of the adds for (the movie, book) Super Size Me, and just kind of pictured myself on the poster. That's some good marketing for that movie. Don't think I'll be heading back to Micky D's anytime soon. It's just so easy though!
I'm about ready to get back home and get away from this fast food oasis that is the medical center in San Antonio!
